PRESS RELEASE 13 June 2011 Reuben is/was on the FIDE Committee, so this mighty cause a split within FIDE:
The English Chess Federation wish to express, in the strongest possible terms, its condemnation of the recent visit by the President of FIDE (The World Chess Federation) to Libya on 11 and 12 June. Meeting with Colonel Gaddafi, at a time when there is virtually universal condemnation of his actions in his own country, brings chess into disrepute.

I think the FIDE president is a insane idiot. He treats FIDE like his own personal fiefdom. Chess should stay out of Politics.

Apparently he thinks he was abducted by aliens...Pity he wasnt? Apparently Kasparov and Short worked together to try to get Karpov in to unseat him. When those 3 old enemies collaborate on something, it must be something important!

Chess is not in the mainstream. I think part of the blame must fall on FIDE. Instead of trying to promote it, and get it noticed in positive way, instead the FIDE president makes it a laughing stock.
