Fresh from my 5/5 win in the Chess Classic Minor, I got 4/5 joint 1st at Coulsdon U120 this weekend, sharing it with the one guy who beat me. I'm annoyed at dropping that game, but as I also won the U100 grading prize, I took the maximum £100 prize allowed anyway. I also beat a 156, the second strongest player I have ever beaten. I had a full point bye but he was playing for the point, and I embarassingly said beforehand he'd make mincemeat of me and also declined a draw offer! Round 2 was my only loss when I played a bad sacrifice needlessly. Round 3 was a junior who played very well and had me on the ropes untill he blundered a piece, and was mature enough to resign immediately. He won the U80 grading prize. Round 4 was with the same guy who dropped a centre pawn to let me off the hook at the Classic. He played the Sicilian again, and I was a lot more wary this time. After a hard fought game which ended in a complex rook endgame and me blockading his pawn on the 7th but a pawn up, he misplayed a drawn position and I won. The final round was against a Polish guy and also hard fought going into a my Bishop against his knight endgame, and he blundered a pawn to give me the win. It isnt worth posting all my games but maybe my better ones. I've got another tourney this w/e and I'm a bit chessed out but I might get round to it. Happy promotions!
